Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Ja'far narrates that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) recited a verse of prostration during an obligatory prayer and then performed the prostration.

Hazrat Abu Majliz says that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) recited a verse of prostration in the Zuhr prayer, then performed prostration. People think that he recited "Alif Lam Meem Tanzil As-Sajdah."

The same is also narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both).

Hazrat Abu Hakimah says that Hazrat Umar led his companions in the Zuhr prayer and performed a sajdah of recitation in it.

Hazrat Bakr says that a man narrated to me that he saw Hazrat Ibn Zubair in Makkah; he led the Asr or Zuhr prayer and performed a prostration in it. After the prayer, someone said to him, "Did you lead five rak'ahs?" He replied, "No, I recited a surah in which there was a prostration of recitation."

Hazrat Anas bin Sirin says that Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) recited "Alif Lam Meem Tanzeel As-Sajdah" in the first rak'ah of Zuhr, and in the second rak'ah he recited a surah from the Mathani.

Ibrahim says that it was said that except for Fajr, do not recite a verse of prostration in any obligatory prayer. On Fridays, Ibrahim considered it preferable that a surah containing a verse of prostration be recited.

Hazrat Abu Majliz did not perform the prostration of recitation in obligatory prayers and used to say that I do not like to add anything to the obligatory prayer.
