Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Zaid bin Aslam states that during the time of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and Hazrat Abu Bakr, water used to be sprinkled and sweeping was done in the mosque.

Hazrat Abdul Muttalib bin Abdullah bin Hantab narrates that Hazrat Umar came to the Quba Mosque on his horse and offered prayer there. Then he said to his servant, "O Yarfa! Bring the broom." When he brought the broom, Hazrat Umar gathered up his clothes and swept the mosque.

Hazrat Abu Asim Thaqafi says that I was in the mosque with Hazrat Sha'bi, and he lowered his head and started doing something. I asked, "O Abu Amr! What are you doing?" He said, "I am picking up pieces of wood, insects, and other things." And Abu Asim was blind.

Hazrat Ikrimah bin Ammar says that I saw Hazrat Salim sweep a place and then offer prayer there.

Hazrat Yaqub bin Zaid narrates that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) used to sweep the dust from the mosque with a broom.
