Ruling on Smiling During Salah
Hadith 3942
٣٩٤٢ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا وكيع عن أبي جعفر الرازي عن الربيع بن أنس عن رجل عن ابن مسعود قال: التبسم في الصلاة ليس بشيء (١).
Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) says that there is no harm in smiling during prayer.
Hadith 3943
٣٩٤٣ - حدثنا ابن مهدي عن سفيان عن أبي الزبير عن جابر قال: التبسم لا يقطع، ولكن (تقطع) (١) (القرقرة) (٢) (٣).
Hazrat Jabir says that a smile does not break the prayer, but laughter does break the prayer.
Hadith 3944
٣٩٤٤ - حدثنا وكيع عن سفيان عن ليث عن مجاهد قال: التبسم في الصلاة ليس بشيء.
Hazrat Mujahid says that there is no harm in smiling during prayer.
Hadith 3945
٣٩٤٥ - [حدثنا وكيع عن سفيان عن منصور عن إبراهيم قال: التبسم في ⦗٣٥٧⦘ الصلاة ليس بشيء حتى (تقرقر) (١)] (٢).
Ibrahim says that a smile does not break the prayer, but loud laughter does break the prayer.
Hadith 3946
٣٩٤٦ - حدثنا عباد بن العوام عن عبد الملك عن عطاء وهشام عن الحسن: أنهما لم يريا (١) بالتبسم في الصلاة شيئا.
Hazrat Ata and Hazrat Hisham did not consider there to be any harm in smiling during prayer.
Hadith 3947
٣٩٤٧ - حدثنا ابن مهدي عن الحكم بن عطية عن ابن سيرين: أنه سئل عن التبسم في الصلاة، فقرأ هذه الآية: ﴿فَتَبَسَّمَ ضَاحِكًا مِنْ قَوْلِهَا﴾ [النمل: ١٩]. (وقال) (١): لا أعلم التبسم إلا ضحكا.
Hazrat Hakam bin Atiyyah says that Hazrat Ibn Sirin was asked about smiling in prayer, so he recited this verse { فَتَبَسَّمَ ضَاحِکًا مِنْ قَوْلِہَا } and said that I consider smiling to be merely a form of laughter.
Hadith 3948
٣٩٤٨ - [حدثنا ابن مهدي عن حماد بن سلمة عن حميد قال: كان الحسن بن مسلم إذا رآني تبسم في وجهي وهو في الصلاة] (١).
Hazrat Humaid says that whenever Hasan bin Muslim saw me, he would smile, even if he was in prayer.
Hadith 3949
٣٩٤٩ - حدثنا ابن مهدي عن شيبان عن جابر عن عامر قال: لا بأس بالتبسم.
Hazrat Aamir says that there is no harm in smiling.
