Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ma’rur bin Suwaid narrates that we set out with Hazrat Umar with the intention of Hajj. He led us in the Fajr prayer, in the first rak’ah of which he recited Surah Al-Fil and in the second rak’ah Surah Quraysh.

Hazrat Amr bin Maymoon narrates that Hazrat Umar led us in the Fajr prayer and recited Surah Al-Kafiroon and Surah Al-Ikhlas in it.

Ibrahim narrates that the companions used to recite short surahs during travel.

Hazrat Dawood narrates that I was on a journey with Hazrat Anas. He used to lead us in the Fajr prayer with Surah Al-A'la and similar surahs.

Hazrat Abu Wa'il says that Hazrat Ibn Mas'ud led us in the Fajr prayer during a journey and in it he recited this verse from the end of Surah Bani Isra'il { الْحَمْدُ لِلَّہِ الَّذِی لَمْ یَتَّخِذْ وَلَدًا } then he performed ruku.

Hazrat Imran bin Abi Al-Ja'd says that I was with Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) on a journey, he led us in the Fajr prayer and recited Surah At-Takweer in it.

Hazrat Uqbah bin Amir Juhani says that I was with the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on a journey. When dawn broke, he gave the call to prayer (adhan) and the iqamah, then made me stand on his right side, and then recited the Mu'awwidhatayn (Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Naas). When he finished the prayer, he said, "What is your opinion?" I replied, "I have the correct opinion." He said, "When you go to sleep, recite these Surahs, and when you wake up, also recite these Surahs."
