Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Ubadah bin Samit that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The prayer of the person who has not recited Surah Al-Fatihah is not valid.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever offered prayer and did not recite Surah Al-Fatiha in it, his prayer is incomplete, incomplete, incomplete.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Every prayer in which Surah Al-Fatihah is not recited is incomplete.

Hazrat Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that whoever did not recite Surah Al-Fatihah in every rak'ah, it is as if he did not pray at all. However, it is not necessary to recite it behind the Imam.

Hazrat Imran bin Husain says that the prayer is not valid in which Surah Al-Fatihah and at least two more verses are not recited.

Hazrat Abu Saeed says that in every prayer there is recitation of the Holy Qur'an, and that is Surah Al-Fatihah or something more than it.

Hazrat Umar says that the prayer is not valid in which Surah Al-Fatihah and at least two more verses are not recited.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Harith says that I was sitting with some Ansari companions. They mentioned prayer and said that there is no prayer without recitation, even if a person only recites Surah Al-Fatiha, but it must be done. The narrator, Hazrat Khalid, says that I asked Abdullah bin Harith, "Can you name any of them?" He replied, "Yes, Khawat bin Jubair."

Hazrat Mujahid says that any rak‘ah in which Surah Al-Fatihah is not recited, that rak‘ah must be repeated.

Hazrat Muhammad bin Hakam narrates that Hazrat Abu Wa'il recited Surah Al-Fatihah and one verse, then performed rukoo (bowing).

Hazrat Ata says that Hazrat Abu Hurairah said that Surah Al-Fatihah is sufficient. Later, I met him and asked, "In obligatory (prayer)?" He said, "Yes."

Ibrahim says that Surah Al-Fatihah is sufficient in both obligatory and non-obligatory (prayers).

Hazrat Abu Alia Bara says that I asked Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) whether I should recite (Qira'at) in every rak'ah? He replied, "I feel shy before the Lord of this House that I do not recite Surah Al-Fatihah and whatever is easy after it in every rak'ah." He says that I asked Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them), so he said, "It is up to you; if you wish, recite less than that, and if you wish, recite more than that."

Hazrat Waleed bin Yahya says that Hazrat Jabir bin Zaid recited { مُدْہَامَّتَانِ } and then performed rukoo.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The prayer of that person is not valid who does not recite Surah Al-Fatiha and another Surah along with it in obligatory and non-obligatory prayers.

Hazrat Jabir narrates that we used to say that the prayer of the person who does not recite Surah Al-Fatihah and something more than it is not valid.

Hazrat Mujahid says that reciting Surah Al-Fatihah is sufficient in voluntary (nafl) prayers.
