Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri narrates that we used to estimate the duration of the standing (qiyam) of the Prophet (peace be upon him) in the Zuhr and Asr prayers. In the first two rak'ahs of Zuhr, he would recite about thirty verses, and in the last two rak'ahs, he would stand for about half that duration. Similarly, in the first two rak'ahs of Asr, he would stand for the same duration as the last two rak'ahs of Zuhr, and in the last two rak'ahs of Asr, he would stand for about half the duration of the first two rak'ahs.

Hazrat Jabir bin Samurah narrates that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite Surah Al-A'la in the Zuhr prayer and in the Fajr prayer he would recite a surah even longer than that.

Hazrat Jabir bin Samurah narrates that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite Surah At-Tariq and Surah Al-Buruj in the Zuhr and Asr prayers.

Hazrat Abu Qatadah narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to lead us in the first two rak'ahs of Zuhr in such a way that he would recite more in the first rak'ah and less in the second. He would also lead the Fajr prayer in such a way that he would recite more in the first rak'ah and less in the second. And he used to lead the first two rak'ahs of Asr in the same manner.

Hazrat Abu Alia states that it was estimated regarding the recitation in the Zuhr prayer of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he used to recite a Surah similar to Alif Lam Meem Tanzeel.

Hazrat Abu Uthman Nahdi says that I heard Hazrat Umar reciting Surah Qaf softly in the Zuhr prayer.

Hazrat Abu Mutawakkil Naji says that Hazrat Umar recited Surah Qaf and Surah adh-Dhariyat in the Zuhr prayer.

Hazrat Humaid says that I offered the Zuhr prayer behind Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), he recited Surah Al-A'la and made us hear one verse.

Hazrat Muraq Ajli narrates that I offered the Zuhr prayer behind Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them), and he recited Surah Maryam in it.

Hazrat Mujahid says that I heard Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) reciting Surah Kaf-Ha-Ya-Ain-Saad in the Zuhr prayer.

Ibrahim says that I recite Surah As-Saffat in the Zuhr prayer.

Hazrat Hammad says that the recitation in Zuhr and Fajr is the same.

Hazrat Hammad says that Zuhr is equal to Fajr.

Hazrat Uqbah bin Nafi' narrates that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to recite (Qur'an) equally in Zuhr and Asr prayers.

Hazrat Imran bin Husain narrates that once the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) concluded the Zuhr prayer with salam and said, "Has anyone among you recited Surah Al-A'la?" A man replied, "Yes! I have recited it." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I felt that someone was disputing with me."
