Ruling on informing the imam or leader about the start of prayer
Hadith 3552
٣٥٥٢ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: (حدثنا) (١) جرير عن عبد العزيز بن رفيع عن مجاهد قال: لما قدم عمر مكة أتاه أبو محذورة وقد أذن فقال: الصلاة يا أمير المؤمنين (حي على الصلاة) (٢) حي على الصلاة، حي على الفلاح حي على الفلاح، قال: ويحك أمجنون أنت؟! أما كان في دعائك الذي دعوتنا ما نأتيك حتى تأتينا (٣).
Hazrat Mujahid narrates that when Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived, Hazrat Abu Mahdhurah came to him after giving the adhan and said: O Commander of the Faithful! The time for prayer has come, Ḥayya ‘alaṣ-ṣalāh, Ḥayya ‘alaṣ-ṣalāh, Ḥayya ‘alal-falāḥ, Ḥayya ‘alal-falāḥ. Upon this, Hazrat Umar said: Are you insane? Is the call you have already given not sufficient for us to attend the mosque?
Hadith 3553
٣٥٥٣ - حدثنا جرير عن مغيرة قال: كان المؤذن إذا استبطأ القوم قال: أشهد أن محمدا رسول اللَّه، قد قامت الصلاة، قد قامت الصلاة، حي على الصلاة حي على الصلاة، حي على الفلاح حي على الفلاح.
Hazrat Mughira narrates that when people delayed in coming for prayer, the muezzin used to say these words: "I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. The prayer has been established, the prayer has been established. Come to prayer, come to prayer. Come to success, come to success."
