Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Hammam narrates from his father that once Hazrat Ash'ath appointed a boy to lead the prayer. When this was objected to, he said, "I have put the Qur'an forward."

Hazrat Hisham narrates from his father that when Hazrat Ash'ath arrived, he put a boy forward to lead the prayer, so the people objected to this. Upon this, Hazrat Ash'ath said that I did not put him forward, rather I have put the Qur'an forward.

Ibrahim says that there is no harm if a child leads the prayer in Ramadan before reaching puberty.

Hasan says that there is no harm if a child leads the prayer before reaching puberty.

Hazrat Ata and Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz say that a child cannot lead (the prayer) in obligatory or voluntary prayers before reaching puberty.

Hazrat Sha'bi says that a child cannot lead the prayer (Imamat) until he reaches puberty.

Hazrat Mujahid says that a child cannot lead the prayer (Imamat) until he reaches puberty.
