Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform the Asr prayer at a time when the sun would be shining into my room and the shadows had not yet appeared.

Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform the Asr prayer when the sun was still white and clear. Then I would go to my family at the outskirts of Madinah, but they would not have performed the prayer yet. I would say to them, "What has kept you sitting? Perform the prayer, for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has already performed the prayer."

Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Ghanm says that I wrote a letter to Hazrat Umar to inquire about the time of the Asr prayer, so he replied to me saying that when the sun is between the two sides, then perform the Asr prayer.

Hazrat Nafi' narrates that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to perform the Asr prayer at a time when the sun was white and clear. Sometimes he would offer it early and sometimes he would delay it.

Hazrat Khaythamah says that the Asr prayer will be performed at a time when the sun is white and alive, and the life of the sun is that you feel its heat.

Hazrat Rafi' bin Khadij narrates that we used to offer the 'Asr prayer with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), then before the Maghrib prayer, we would slaughter a camel, divide it into ten parts, then cook it, and eat its cooked meat.

Hazrat Abu Al-Anbas says that I asked my father, "Have you offered prayer with Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him)? Tell me, how did he use to perform the Asr prayer?" He replied that he used to perform the Asr prayer when the sun was still high.

Hazrat Hisham narrates from his father that a man came to Hazrat Mughirah bin Shu’bah in Kufa and saw that he performed the Asr prayer late. The man asked, “Why do you perform the Asr prayer late?” He replied, “I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performing the prayer in this manner. I would perform the prayer with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and then return to my home in Banu Amr bin Awf, but the sun would still be high.”

Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform the Asr prayer while the sun was still high. Then, if someone set out, he would reach the outskirts of Madinah and the sun would still be high.

Hazrat Ibn Arwa says that I used to offer the Asr prayer with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and then I would reach Dhul-Hulaifah before the sun set.
