Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abdullah said that the earliest time for Zuhr is when you look at your feet, and if you can estimate three to five steps, then this is the earliest time. Its last time is when you look at your feet and can estimate five to seven steps. Hazrat Aswad bin Yazid says that in my opinion, this statement was made regarding the winter season.

Hazrat Ammarah says that the predecessors used to offer the Zuhr prayer when the shadow would become established.

Ibrahim says that when the shadow of something becomes three cubits, then the Zuhr prayer should be performed at that time. If a person is in a hurry, he may perform it before that, and if there is a necessity, he may perform it after that. Zaidah says that I asked Mansur whether this was meant for the summer season? He replied, "Yes."

Ibrahim says that when a man's shadow becomes three arm-lengths, then it is the time for the Zuhr prayer.

Hazrat Abu Majliz says that I prayed with Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) and I intended to estimate the timing of his prayer. After the prayer, I measured my shadow and it was three cubits.

Hazrat Harith bin Saib says that I asked Muhammad bin Sirin about the time of Zuhr, so he replied: When the shadow of everything becomes three cubits, then the Zuhr prayer should be performed at that time.
