Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Rafi' bin Khadij that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Offer the Fajr prayer in brightness, for there is greater reward in it."

Ibrahim Taimi narrates from his father that we used to perform the Fajr prayer, and our imam would recite from one of the Surahs of Mueen. At that time, we would be in our usual clothes. Then we would go to Ibn Mas'ud, and he would still be praying.

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "O Ibn Nabbah! Offer the Fajr prayer in brightness."

Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Aswad says that Hazrat Ibn Masood used to offer the Fajr prayer in brightness.

Hazrat Ziyad bin Muqatta says that I saw Hazrat Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) performing the Fajr prayer in very bright light.

Hazrat Jubair bin Nafeer says that Hazrat Muawiyah led us in the Fajr prayer while it was still dark, so Hazrat Abu Darda said that offer this prayer in the light because this is a more sensible thing to do.

Hazrat Rabee’ bin Aqeel used to instruct his muezzin, “O Abu Aqeel! Let there be light, let there be light.”

Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Yazid says that Hazrat Ibn Mas'ud used to offer the Fajr prayer in brightness.

Hazrat Usman bin Abi Hind narrates that Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz used to offer the Fajr prayer in brightness.

Hazrat A'mash narrates that the companions of Hazrat Abdullah used to offer the Fajr prayer in brightness.

Hazrat Ubaid al-Maktab says that Ibrahim used to offer the Fajr prayer in brightness.

Hazrat Zaid bin Aslam says that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Offer the Fajr prayer in brightness; the more you perform it in brightness, the greater will be its reward."

Muhammad says that the predecessors used to prefer that when they finished the Fajr prayer, there should be enough light that an object could be seen from the distance of an arrow's throw.

Hazrat Bishr bin Uruwah says that I traveled with Hazrat Alqamah; he used to perform the Fajr prayer in dim light.

Ibrahim says that the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) were never as unanimous on any matter as they were on performing the Fajr prayer in brightness.

Hazrat Nafi’ah bin Muslim says that Suwaid bin Ghaflah used to perform the Fajr prayer in brightness.

Hazrat Waqa says that Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair used to offer the Fajr prayer in brightness.

A man narrates that the students of Abdullah used to offer the Fajr prayer in brightness.

Hazrat Khursha narrates that Hazrat Umar led the people in Fajr prayer in darkness, in brightness, and also at a time between the two.

Hazrat Abdul Malik bin Umair narrates that Hazrat Mughirah bin Shu’bah led the morning prayer (Fajr) both in darkness and in light. To the extent that I said, "Has the sun risen or has it not risen!" He also performed the Fajr prayer between these two times. His muezzin was Ibn al-Nabbah; besides him, he had no other muezzin.

Hazrat Rabee’ used to say: Let there be light for the Fajr prayer, let there be light.

Hazrat Tamim bin Huzlam, who was a companion, used to say: Let there be light for the Fajr prayer, let there be light.
