Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abdullah says that none of you should leave any part of his body for Satan. And do not consider it necessary for yourself that you must only turn to the right side. I have often seen the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) turning to the left side.

Hazrat Qabeesah bin Hulb narrates from his father that he offered prayer with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and saw that after the prayer, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned to one side.

Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to turn his face towards the right side.

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says that when you have completed the prayer and need to get up for some task, then see whether your need is to the right side or to the left side; so whichever side your need is, go in that direction.

Hazrat Jarir narrates that when Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) completed the salam, he did not mind whether he turned to the right side or to the left side.

Hazrat Qatadah says that Hazrat Anas considered it disliked for a person to turn around in his prayer like a donkey.

Hazrat Najiyah narrates that Hazrat Abu Ubaidah saw a man who, after completing his prayer, got up towards the left side, so he said that he has acted upon the Sunnah.

Hazrat Mansoor says that Hasan liked that a person should get up towards the right side after offering prayer.

Hazrat Wasi’ bin Hibban narrates that I was performing prayer and Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar was sitting leaning against the wall of the qiblah. After completing my prayer, I turned to my left side, so he said to me, “Why did you not turn to your right side?” I replied, “No, I saw you, so I got up and came towards you.” He said, “You did right. Some people say that you must get up to your right side (consider it necessary). When you have completed your prayer, if you wish, turn to your right side, and if you wish, turn to your left side.”

Ibrahim says: "Face whichever direction you wish."
