Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Musa narrates that once the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said that broad, comprehensive, and concise words have been granted to me. We submitted, "Teach us also something from what Allah has taught you." Then he taught us the words of Tashahhud.

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to teach us the words of Tashahhud in prayer just as a teacher teaches children.

Hazrat Abu Abdur Rahman Salami says that we used to learn the Tashahhud just as we used to learn a surah of the Holy Qur'an.

Hazrat Aswad narrates that we saw Alqamah learning the Tashahhud from Hazrat Abdullah in the same manner as one learns a surah of the Holy Qur'an.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to teach us the Tashahhud in the same manner as he used to teach us a surah from the Holy Qur'an.

Ibrahim says that the predecessors used to memorize this Tashahhud, that is, the Tashahhud of Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him), with great effort and would work hard on every single letter of it.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to teach us the Tashahhud in the same manner as a surah from the Holy Qur'an is taught.

Hazrat Umair bin Saeed says that I went with my father to the service of Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him), and he taught us this Tashahhud (i.e., the Tashahhud of Abdullah).

Hazrat Ibn Masood says that in the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), we used to write nothing except Istikhara and Tashahhud.

Hazrat Aswad narrates that Hazrat Abdullah used to teach us the Tashahhud of prayer in the same manner as he used to teach us a surah of the Holy Qur'an. He would make us pay attention to even the alif and waw in it.

Hazrat Abu Al-Aaliyah narrates that Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) heard a man during Tashahhud in prayer saying: "Alhamdulillah, at-tahiyyatu lillah." Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) scolded him and said: "Why are you starting with Alhamdulillah! When you sit, begin with at-tahiyyatu lillah."

Hazrat A’mash says that Ibrahim used to make us pay attention to the “waaw” in Tashahhud and would say: “as-salawaatu wat-tayyibaatu”.

Ibrahim says that the predecessors used to learn the Tashahhud from each other just as they would learn a surah of the Holy Qur'an.
