Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Dharr Ghifari that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: When a person does not have anything in front of him equal to the wood of a camel's saddle, then the passing of a woman, a donkey, and a black dog will break the prayer. The narrator, Hazrat Abdullah bin Samit, says: I asked, O Abu Dharr! What is the difference between a black dog, a red dog, and a yellow dog? He replied: O my nephew! I asked the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, about this, and he said: The black dog is a devil.

Hazrat Mujahid says that a black dog is a devil; it breaks the prayer.

It is similarly narrated from Hazrat Mu'adh.

Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the prayer is invalidated by the passing of a woman, a donkey, and a dog.

The same is narrated from Hazrat Abu Al-Ahwas.

Hazrat Mak'hool says that a man's prayer is broken if a woman, a donkey, or a dog passes in front of him.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that the passing of a black dog and a menstruating woman invalidates the prayer.

Hasan says that the prayer is invalidated by the passing of a dog, a woman, and a donkey.

Hazrat Ikrimah says that the prayer is invalidated by the passing of a dog, a woman, a pig, a donkey, a Jew, a Christian, and a Magian.

Hazrat Tawus once said that the passing of a dog breaks the prayer. Someone asked, does the passing of a woman also break it? He replied, no, they are a part of your own kind; they are your sisters and mothers.

Hazrat Bakr narrates that once during prayer, a puppy passed in front of Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them), so he repeated that rak‘ah.

Hazrat Ata says that the prayer is not invalidated by anything passing in front except a black dog and a menstruating woman.
