Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Qais bin Sa'd narrates that Hazrat Ata was asked: If a person forgets to rinse his mouth and nose during ablution, what should he do? He replied: He should rinse his mouth, put water in his nose, and repeat the prayer.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) says that if a person forgets to rinse his mouth or put water in his nose while performing the ritual bath of impurity (ghusl janabat), then he should rinse his mouth and put water in his nose again and then perform the prayer.

Hazrat Ata says that if a person forgets to rinse the mouth or put water in the nose and performs the prayer, then there is no need to repeat the prayer.

Hasan, regarding the person who forgets to rinse his mouth, says that if he has started the prayer, he should continue, and if he has not yet started, he should rinse his mouth and put water in his nose.

Ibrahim says that if a person forgets to rinse the mouth and nose, he should repeat the prayer.

Hazrat Sha’bah states that Hazrat Hakam, Hazrat Hammad, and Hazrat Qatadah were asked about a person who forgets to rinse his mouth and nose (during ablution). Hazrat Hakam and Hazrat Qatadah said that he should continue his prayer, while Hazrat Hammad said that he should end his prayer.

Hazrat Sha'bi says that if a person forgets to rinse the mouth or put water in the nose during the ghusl of janabah, then he should repeat the prayer, but if he forgets during wudu, then there is no harm.

Hasan, regarding the person who forgets to rinse the mouth and nose and performs the prayer, says that there is no harm in this.

Ibrahim says that putting water in the nose is not obligatory.

Hazrat Hammad says that if a person forgets to rinse the mouth and put water in the nose, he should not repeat the prayer.

Hazrat Mansur says that I asked Ibrahim, "If a person forgets to put water in his nose and remembers it during prayer, what should he do?" Ibrahim replied, "He should continue praying." Hazrat Mansur says that the same ruling applies to rinsing the mouth.
