Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Ishaq narrates that Hazrat Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas came out of the toilet, performed ablution, and wiped over his socks. Someone said to him, “You have come out of the toilet and are wiping over your socks?” He replied, “Yes, if you have worn the socks while your feet were clean, then wipe over them, and do not remove them except in the case of major impurity (janabah).”

He used to say regarding wiping over the socks: Wipe over them, and except for the state of major impurity (janabah), there is no fixed time for them.

Hazrat Abu Salamah did not believe in any fixed duration for wiping over the socks and used to say that wipe as long as you wish.

Hazrat Urwah did not believe in any fixed time for wiping over the socks.

Hazrat Yazid bin Abi Habib narrates that Hazrat Abu Ubaidah bin Jarrah sent Hazrat Uqbah bin Amir to Hazrat Umar to convey the news of the conquest of Damascus. He departed on a Friday and reached him on a Friday. Hazrat Umar asked him, "When did you depart?" He also informed him that since he had departed, he had not removed his socks. Hazrat Umar said, "You did right."
