Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Hasan bin Ubaidullah says that I was going towards the bathhouse when Abu Sadiq saw me and said, "Do you have an izar (waist cloth)? Because Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say that whoever exposes his private parts, Allah the Exalted turns away from him."

Hazrat Qatadah narrates that Hazrat Umar wrote this order: No person should enter the bathhouse without a lower garment (izar).

Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz wrote in a letter to the governor of Basra ordering him to prevent the people of his region from entering the bathhouse without a waist-wrapper.

Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair says that it is forbidden to enter the bathhouse without a lower garment.

Hazrat Ziyad bin Abdur Rahman narrates that I saw Abu Ja'far entering the bathhouse, and he was wearing an izar up to his knees, while there were also people in that bathhouse without an izar.

Muhammad considered it undesirable for a man to enter the bathhouse without a lower garment, and he also considered it undesirable for a man to enter wearing a lower garment while others were without one. By doing so, he would become sinful by seeing their private parts.

Hazrat Umar wrote a letter to the commanders of the armies stating that no man should enter the bathhouse without a lower garment, and no woman should enter the bathhouse without a valid illness.

Hazrat Amr bin Maimoon says that when any of you enters a bathhouse or the Euphrates, he should wear an izar and put on underpants.

Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz used to beat the owner of the bathhouse and the person who entered the bathhouse without a lower garment.

Hazrat Musa bin Ubaidah says that I saw Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz whipping those who entered the bathhouse without a lower garment, and he was also punishing the owner of the bathhouse.

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade men and women from entering the bathhouse, except that a sick person and a woman in postnatal bleeding may enter the bathhouse.

It is narrated from Hazrat Tawoos that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever enters the bathhouse should cover his private parts.

Hazrat Habib narrates that Hazrat Ata, Hazrat Tawus, and Hazrat Mujahid entered the bathhouse and applied nura to their bodies therein.
