Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Mansur says that I asked Ibrahim, "Can I perform ghusl with the water from a public bath?" He replied, "Yes, if you take it from one side, then it is permissible for you."

Hazrat Sha'bi says that if I perform ghusl (ritual bath) because of this, I will not perform ghusl again.

Hazrat Husain says that I asked Hazrat Ikrimah whether Magians and those in a state of major impurity (janabah) also bathe in the public bath. He replied: Water is a purifier; nothing makes it impure.

Hazrat Hisham says that for a person in a state of major ritual impurity (junub), the water of the bathhouse is sufficient.

Hazrat Mughira says that when Ibrahim would enter the bathhouse, upon leaving he would perform ghusl (ritual bath) under the spout and then come out.

Hazrat Sha'bi would enter the bathhouse and perform ablution, then would say that if I were to perform ghusl (ritual bath) in it, I would not enter it.

Hazrat Alqamah and Hazrat Aswad used to perform ghusl (ritual bath) with the water of Hammam, and after that, they would not perform ghusl again.

Hazrat Ibn Abzi says that the bathhouse is made so that cleanliness may be attained through it, not so that after using it there remains a need to become pure.

The same is narrated through another chain.

Hazrat Yahya bin Ubaid says that I asked Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) about the water of the bathhouse, so he replied that water does not make anyone impure.

Hazrat Abu Farwah says that I asked Hazrat Sha’bi, “Would you perform ghusl (ritual bath) with the water of a public bath while in a state of janabah (major ritual impurity)?” He replied, “Yes, and then I would consider it my best ghusl.” I asked, “Would you perform ghusl again after coming out of the bath?” He replied, “Then why would I enter it in the first place?”

Hasan considered bathing with the water of the public bath disliked.

Hazrat Sayyar says that I saw Hazrat Sha'bi coming out of the bathhouse and washing his body with the bathhouse water, but he did not wash his feet. I asked him the reason for this, so he said: I am a person who is looked at by others.
