Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah was asked about drops of madhiy (pre-seminal fluid), so he (peace and blessings be upon him) said that ablution (wudu) is obligatory for it, and ghusl (full ritual bath) is obligatory for semen (mani).

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said that madhiy (pre-seminal fluid) used to be discharged from me. I said to Miqdad to ask the Messenger of Allah about this matter because the daughter of the Prophet was married to me, so I felt shy to ask this question myself. Miqdad asked, and the Prophet said: "Every adult man has madhiy discharged from him. If it is semen (mani), then ghusl (full ritual bath) is obligatory; if it is madhiy, then wudu (ablution) is obligatory."

This hadith is narrated through another chain as well.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates that I went to Hazrat Ubayy, and Hazrat Umar was also present with him. I said that I felt madhi (pre-seminal fluid), so I washed my private part. Hazrat Umar asked, "Is this sufficient for you?" I said, "Yes." He said, "Did you hear this from the Messenger of Allah?" I replied, "Yes."

Hazrat Khursha bin Har says that Hazrat Umar was asked about madhi (pre-seminal fluid), so he replied that this is a very minor thing; only ablution (wudu) becomes obligatory because of it.

Hazrat Abu Usman Hindi says that Salman bin Rabee’ah married a woman from Banu Aqeel. When he engaged in foreplay with her, his madhi (pre-seminal fluid) was discharged. Upon this, he performed ghusl (ritual bath) and asked Hazrat Umar about it. Hazrat Umar said, “Ghusl is not obligatory due to this; this is merely madhi.”

Hazrat Sahl bin Hunaif narrates that a lot of madhi (pre-seminal fluid) used to be discharged from me, because of which I used to perform ghusl (ritual bath) very frequently. I asked the Messenger of Allah about this, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Wudu (ablution) is sufficient for you."

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) says that ghusl will be performed due to semen, and in the case of the emission of madhiy, one should wash the private part and perform wudu. And as for that which is discharged due to desire, I do not know what that is.

A person from the family of Abu Muhallab used to perform ghusl because of the thing that comes after urination. He said to him that wudu is sufficient for you.

Hazrat Qasim says that whatever comes out due to lust, I do not know what it is.

It was mentioned before Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) about wetness, madhi, and some other things felt by a man, so he said: If I find any of these things, I will perform ghusl (ritual bath).

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said that in the case of the emission of semen, ghusl is obligatory, and in the case of the emission of madhiy or wadi, wudu is obligatory.

Hazrat Abu Huraira was asked about the obligation of ghusl due to madhiy, so he replied that it is merely excitement; only wudu becomes necessary because of it.

Hazrat Istabraq says that I asked Salim about madhi, so he replied that ablution (wudu) should be performed in this case.

Hazrat Ikrimah says that there is ghusl (ritual bath) for semen, and for madhiy and wadhi, the private part should be washed and wudu (ablution) should be performed.

Hazrat Simak says that I asked Hasan Basri, "If a man emits madhi (pre-seminal fluid), what should he do?" He replied, "Madhi is emitted by every adult man; he should wash his private part."

Hazrat Mujahid says that ghusl is obligatory for semen, and wudu is obligatory for madhiy and wadhi.

Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair says that in the case of madhiy, the private part should be washed three times and then ablution should be performed.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that Ghusl is obligatory due to semen, and Wudu is obligatory due to madhiy and wadhi, and he will also wash the private part.
