Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Ibrahim says that I asked Aswad whether Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) used to wash his feet. He replied that he used to wash his feet thoroughly.

Hazrat Humaid says that Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) used to wash his feet in ablution with such care that water would begin to flow from them.

Hazrat Ibn Ghurba reports that Hazrat Umar bin Al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) saw a man performing ablution who washed the outer parts but left the inner parts. Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him, "Why are you leaving the inner parts for the fire?"

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Wash the feet including the ankles.

Hazrat Mujahid states that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to say: "I pour plenty of water over them," and would wash his feet saying this.

Hazrat Hakam states that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and the way of the people of Islam is that they used to wash the feet.

Hazrat Abu Hayya narrates that I saw Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) performing ablution; he washed both his feet including the ankles and said, "I wanted to teach you the ablution of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)."

Hazrat Ikrimah says that in the verse of Wudu, Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) used to recite ﴿وَاَرْجُلَكُمْ﴾, from which it is understood that he considered washing the feet to be necessary.

Hazrat Urwah states that his father used to recite the verse of ablution as follows: ﴿فَاغْسِلُوْا وُجُوْهَكُمْ وَاَيْدِيَكُمْ اِلَي الْمَرَافِقِ وَامْسَحُوْا بِرُئُ وْسِكُمْ وَ اَرْجُلَكُمْ﴾ from which it is evident that he considered washing the feet to be obligatory.

Hazrat Hammad says that Ibrahim also, by saying "wa arjulakum" in the verse of wudu, believed in washing the feet.

Hazrat Amr says that Hasan Basri used to say about the verse of ablution that by washing it is meant to rub thoroughly.

Hazrat Imran says that Hazrat Abu Majliz used to wash his feet during ablution.

Hazrat Rabi' narrates that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to come to us and would wash his feet three times during ablution.

Hazrat Rubayyi' bint Mu'awwidh ibn 'Afra says that once Hazrat Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) came to me and asked me about the hadith in which I saw the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) washing his feet during ablution. Then he said that people believe in washing the feet, whereas in the Book of Allah I find mention of wiping.

Hazrat Muhammad bin Mahmood says that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a blind companion performing ablution; he washed his face and hands. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him, "Wash the inner parts of your feet as well." So, in compliance with this instruction, he also washed the inner parts of his feet.

Hazrat Abdul Malik says that I asked Hazrat Ata whether he had met any person who wipes over the feet. Hazrat Ata replied: Such a person will remain without ablution.

Hazrat Hammad bin Masadah says that Hazrat Yazid, the freed slave of Salamah, used to wash feet.
