Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ibn Abi Awfa says that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was on a journey and he was fasting. When the sun had set, he said, "O so-and-so! Get down and prepare sattu (barley drink)." He said, "O Messenger of Allah! There is still some part of the day left." The Prophet said, "Get down and prepare sattu." The Prophet said this three times, so he got down and prepared the sattu. The Prophet drank the sattu and said, "When you see that night has come from this side, then the fasting person should break his fast." Shaibani says, "I asked Hazrat Ibn Abi Awfa, 'Were you with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on this occasion?' He replied, 'Yes.'"
