Hadith 8546
٨٥٤٦ - حدثنا مصعب بن المقدام قال: أخبرنا زائدة قال: قال (زياد) (١) بن (علاقة) (٢): سمعت المغيرة بن شعبة يقول: انكسفت الشمس في عهد رسول اللَّه ﷺ يوم مات إبراهيم فقال الناس: انكسفت لموت إبراهيم، فقال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "إن الشمس والقمر (آيتان) (٣) من آيات اللَّه لا (ينكسفان) (٤) لموت أحد ولا لحياته، فإذا رأيتموهما فادعوا اللَّه وصلوا حتى تنكشف" (٥).
Hazrat Mughira narrates that on the day when the son of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Ibrahim, passed away, people said that the sun was eclipsed because of Ibrahim’s demise. Upon this, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said that the moon and the sun are signs of Allah. They are not eclipsed because of anyone’s life or death. When you see them eclipsed, remain engaged in prayer and supplication until they become bright again.
