Hadith 40753
٤٠٧٥٣ - حدثنا يحيى بن آدم (قال) (١): ثنا (مفضل) (٢) بن مهلهل عن الشيباني عن قيس بن مسلم عن طارق بن شهاب قال: كنت عند علي، فسئل عن أهل النهر (أمشركون هم) (٣) قال: من الشرك فروا، (قيل) (٤): فمنافقون هم؟ قال: إن المنافقين لا يذكرون اللَّه إلا قليلا، قيل له: فما هم؟ قال: قوم بغوا علينا (٥).
Hazrat Tariq bin Shihab narrates that I was with Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), and he was asked about the people of Nahr: "Are they polytheists?" He replied, "They are those who have fled from polytheism." He was asked, "Are they hypocrites?" He said, "Hypocrites remember Allah only a little." He was then asked, "What are they then?" Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) replied, "They are a people who have rebelled against us."
