Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Kathir bin Numair narrates that we were offering the Friday prayer, Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was on the pulpit when a man stood up and said, "There is no command except Allah's." Then another man stood up and said, "There is no command except Allah's." Then people from different corners of the mosque stood up and began to chant the same slogan. Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) gestured with his hand for them to sit down. And he said, "Indeed, there is no command except Allah's, but this is a word of truth by which falsehood is intended. Allah's command regarding you is being awaited. At this time, we have three concessions for you: as long as you are with us, we will not prevent you from the mosques of Allah so that Allah's name may be mentioned therein; we will not deprive you of the spoils as long as our hands and yours are joined; we will not fight you until you fight us." Then he resumed his sermon.
