Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Shareek bin Shihab Harithi says that I wished to meet a companion of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) who could tell me about the Khawarij. On the day of Arafah, I met Hazrat Abu Barzah Aslami, who was with some of his companions. I said to him, "Tell me something you heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about the Khawarij." He said, "I will tell you an incident about them which my ears heard and my eyes saw. It happened that some dinars were brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He began to distribute them. There was a man near you whose hair was covered, he was wearing two white garments, and there was a mark of prostration between his eyes. He came close to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) wanting to take those dinars from him, but the Prophet did not give them to him. He came from the direction of the Prophet's blessed face, but the Prophet did not give him anything. He came from the right side, the Prophet did not give him anything. Then he came from the left side, but the Prophet still did not give him anything. Then he came from behind, and the Prophet still did not give him anything. Then he said, 'O Muhammad! Today you have not acted justly in the distribution.' At this, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) became very angry and said three times, 'By Allah! You will not find anyone more just than me.' Then he said, 'Some people will emerge from the east, and I think he is among them. Their way will be that they will recite the Qur'an, but the Qur'an will not go beyond their throats. They will leave the religion just as an arrow leaves the bow, and they will not return to it.' Then he placed his hand on his chest and said, 'Shaving the head will be their sign. Their emergence will continue until the last of them comes out with the False Messiah (Dajjal).' Then he said three times, 'When you see them, fight them.' Then he said three times, 'They are the worst of creation and habit.'"
