Hadith 40686
٤٠٦٨٦ - حدثنا وكيع قال: حدثنا الأعمش عن شمر عن عبد اللَّه بن سنان الأسدي قال: رأيت عليا يوم صفين ومعه سيف رسول اللَّه ﷺ ذو الفقار قال: فنضبطه (فيفلت) (١) فيحمل عليهم، (قال) (٢): ثم يجيء، قال: ثم يحمل عليهم (٣)، قال: فجاء بسيفه قد (تثنى) (٤) فقال: إن هذا يعتذر إليكم (٥).
Abdullah bin Sinan Asadi narrates that I saw Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) in the Battle of Siffin, and in his hand was the sword named Zulfiqar of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). We used to stay around him, but he would leave us behind; he would attack, then return, then attack again. Then he brought his sword, and it had been split into two pieces. He said, "This presents an excuse for you."
