٤٠٤٤٠ - حدثنا الوليد بن عتبة عن زائدة عن ليث عن مجاهد قال: المهدي عيسى ابن مريم.
It is narrated from Hazrat Mujahid that he said: Mahdi is Isa ibn Maryam. (Note: In this narration, Isa is called Mahdi. This does not necessarily negate the Mahdi whose name is Muhammad bin Abdullah, because Isa is among the rightly guided people and the group of prophets who possess infallibility and high status. Therefore, being Mahdi here is in the linguistic sense. Otherwise, the fact that Isa and Mahdi are two separate personalities is established as clearly as daylight by numerous authentic and mutawatir ahadith.)
