Hadith 39925
٣٩٩٢٥ - حدثنا وكيع عن سفيان عن حبيب عن ميمون بن أبي شبيب قال: قيل لحذيفة: أكفرت بنو إسرائيل في يوم (واحد؟) (١) قال: لا، ولكن كانت تعرض عليهم الفتنة فيأتونها فيُكرهون عليها، ثم (تعرض) (٢) (عليهم) (٣) فيأتونها حتى ضربوا عليها بالسياط والسيوف حتى خاضوا (إخاضة) (٤) الماء حتى لم يعرفوا معروفا ولم ينكروا منكرا (٥).
It is narrated from Maymun bin Abu Shabib that Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked, "Did the Children of Israel commit disbelief in a single day?" He replied, "No, but a trial would be presented to them and they would refuse to adopt it, so they would be forced into it. Then the trial would be presented to them, and they would refuse to adopt it, until they were beaten with whips and swords to make them adopt it, until they plunged into that trial just as one plunges into water, to the extent that they no longer recognized any good nor rejected any evil."
