It is narrated from Hazrat Qais bin Hazim that I saw Hazrat Umar bin Khattab, and in his hand was a branch of a date palm, and he was seating the people and saying: Listen to the words of the Caliph of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. The narrator says: Then the slave of Hazrat Abu Bakr—who was called Shadeed—came with a letter, and he read it out to the people. He said: Hazrat Abu Bakr says: Listen to and obey the man whose name is in this document. By Allah! I have left nothing undone in bringing you to goodness. Qais, the narrator, says: Then after that, I saw Hazrat Umar bin Khattab on the pulpit.
