It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) besieged the people of Ta’if, but none of them came into his hands. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “We will return tomorrow.” The Muslims said, “We will return even though we have not conquered it?” Upon this, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “(Go ahead) fight in the morning as well.” So the companions fought in the morning, but they themselves were wounded. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “We will depart tomorrow.” This pleased the companions, and upon this, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) smiled.
