Hazrat Mus'ab bin Sa'd narrates from his father that on the day of the conquest of Makkah, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) granted safety to all people except for four men and two women, and he said: "Even if you find them clinging to the curtains of the Ka'bah, kill them." (These were) Ikrimah bin Abi Jahl, Abdullah bin Khatal, Muqais bin Subabah, Abdullah bin Abi Sarh. Then Abdullah bin Khatal was found in such a state that he was actually clinging to the curtains of the Ka'bah. So Sa'id bin Harith and Ammar (both) rushed towards him, but Sa'id got ahead of Ammar, and Sa'id was younger than Ammar. And he killed Ibn Khatal. And Muqais bin Subabah was found by the people in the market and was killed there. As for Ikrimah, he boarded a ship at sea, and a strong wind overtook the people of the ship. So the people of the ship began to say to the passengers: "Call upon (God) sincerely, for your (false) gods will not benefit you here in any way." Ikrimah said (in his heart): "By Allah! If only calling upon (God) sincerely can save me in this sea, then it can also save me on land. O Allah! I make a covenant with You that if You grant me safety from this present calamity, I will present myself to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and place my hand in his hand, and I will surely find him forgiving and generous." The narrator says: So he presented himself to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and accepted Islam. And as for Abdullah bin Sa'd bin Abi Sarh, he hid with Uthman, then when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) called the people for allegiance, Uthman brought him to the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and made him stand before him and said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Accept allegiance from Abdullah." The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his blessed head and looked at him three times. Each time, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) refused. Then after three times, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) accepted his allegiance. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned to his companions and said: "Was there not a sensible man among you who would have stood up (to kill him) when he saw that I had withheld my hand from accepting his allegiance?" The companions said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! How could we know what was in your heart? Why did you not signal to us with your eye?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is not appropriate for a Prophet that his eye should be deceitful."
