Hazrat Mujahid narrates that when the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) came on the day of the conquest of Makkah, there were idols lying between the Rukn and Maqam. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) overturned those idols face down. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up to deliver a sermon and said: "Beware! Makkah is a sanctuary (sacred) forever until the Day of Resurrection. Before me, this land was not made lawful for anyone, nor will it be made lawful for anyone after me. However, it has been made lawful for me for a part of a day. The grass of this area (Makkah) shall not be cut, its game shall not be frightened away, its trees shall not be cut, and nothing dropped in it shall be picked up except by one who intends to announce it." (Upon hearing this) Hazrat Abbas stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Please make an exception for Idhkhir (a type of grass) for our blacksmiths, houses, and graves. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: Yes, Idhkhir is excepted. Yes, Idhkhir is excepted.
