Narrated from Hazrat Asim bin Umar bin Qatadah that when night fell, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) slept, and then Jibreel came to him, or he said: an angel came and asked: Which man from your Ummah has passed away tonight? The inhabitants of the heavens are rejoicing at his death. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: What happened to Sa’d? The companions informed him: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! He has passed away, and his people came and took him to their neighborhood. The narrator says: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the Fajr prayer and then set out, and the people also set out with him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made the people walk quickly, tiring them, until their sandal straps fell from their feet and their cloaks fell from their shoulders. A man said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! You have tired the people by making them walk quickly? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I feared that the angels might reach Sa’d before us, just as they reached Hanzalah before us.
2. Muhammad says: Ash’ath bin Ishaq informed me that then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) reached him while he was being washed. The narrator says: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) drew his knees together and said: An angel has come and there was no place for him to sit, so I made space for him. The mother of Sa’d was weeping and reciting poetry. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: All women who weep are liars except the mother of Sa’d.
3. Muhammad says: Some of our companions informed us that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set out for the funeral of Sa’d, some of the hypocrites said: How light is Sa’d’s bier, or they said: How light is Sa’d’s funeral! The narrator says: Sa’d bin Ibrahim narrated to me that on the day Sa’d passed away, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Indeed, seventy thousand angels have descended who participated in Sa’d’s funeral. They had never set foot on the earth before that day.
4. Muhammad says: Then I heard Isma’il bin Muhammad bin Sa’d… when he entered our tent while we were burying Waqid bin Amr bin Sa’d bin Mu’adh… he said: Shall I not tell you what I heard from my elders? I heard my elders say that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said on the day of Sa’d’s death: Indeed, seventy thousand angels descended from the sky and participated in Sa’d’s funeral, who had never set foot on the earth before that day.
5. Muhammad says: My father narrated to me, from his father, from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), that after the passing of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and his two companions (Abu Bakr and Umar), or one of them, the Muslims never felt the loss of anyone more intensely than the loss of Sa’d bin Mu’adh.
6. Muhammad says: Muhammad bin Munkadir narrated to me from Muhammad bin Shurhabil that a man took a handful of earth from Sa’d’s grave on the day of burial, and later when he opened it, it was musk.
7. Muhammad says: And Waqid bin Amr bin Sa’d also narrated to me. The narrator says: Waqid was among the handsome and tall people… Waqid says: I presented myself to Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him). He said to me: Who are you? I replied: I am Waqid bin Amr bin Sa’d bin Mu’adh. Anas said: May Allah have mercy on Sa’d. You indeed resemble Sa’d. Then he said: May Allah have mercy on Sa’d. He was taller and more handsome than the (common) people. Anas said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a delegation to Akidar of Dumah, so he sent a silk robe woven with gold to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wore that robe, then stood on the pulpit and then sat down, but he did not say anything. The people began to touch the robe and look at it with wonder. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Do you marvel at this robe? The people replied: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! We have never seen a garment more beautiful than this. You (peace and blessings be upon him)…
