Hadith 39553
٣٩٥٥٣ - حدثنا أبو أسامة عن شعبة عن عدي بن ثابت عن عبد اللَّه بن يزيد عن زيد بن ثابت قال: (لما خرج رسول اللَّه ﷺ إلى أحد خرج معه ناس فرجعوا، ⦗٤٨٤⦘ قال: فكان أصحاب رسول اللَّه ﷺ) (١) فيهم فرقتين: قالت فرقة: (نقتلهم) (٢)، وفرقة (قالت) (٣): لا نقتلهم، فنزلت: ﴿(فَمَا لَكُمْ) (٤) فِي الْمُنَافِقِينَ فِئَتَيْنِ وَاللَّهُ أَرْكَسَهُمْ بِمَا كَسَبُوا﴾ [النساء: ٨٨]، قال: فقال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "إنها طيبة، وإنها تنفي (الخبث) (٥) كما تنفي النار خبث (الفضة) (٦) " (٧).
It is narrated from Hazrat Zaid bin Thabit that when the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set out towards Uhud, some (hypocrite) people went out with him and then turned back. The narrator says: The companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) were divided into two groups regarding such people. One group said: We will fight them. And the other group said: We will not fight them. Upon this, the following verse was revealed: { فَمَا لَکُمْ فِی الْمُنَافِقِینَ فِئَتَیْنِ وَاللَّہُ أَرْکَسَہُمْ بِمَا کَسَبُوا } The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: This is Tayyibah, and it removes impurity just as fire removes the filth from silver.
