Hadith 38772
٣٨٧٧٢ - حدثنا إسحاق بن سليمان عن أبي سنان قال: حدثني شيخ عن عمرو ابن مرة قال: أول من شَرّط الشُرَط عمرو بن العاص، فلما مرض مرضه الذي مات فيه أرسل إلى شرطه فقال: خذوا سلاحكم (وكراعكم) (١) وائتوني، فلما أتوه قال: إني إنما كنت أعدكم لمثل هذا اليوم، فهل تستطيعون أن تردوا عني شيئًا مما أنا فيه، فقالوا: سبحان اللَّه، تقول هذا وقد كان رسول اللَّه ﷺ يستشيرك ويؤمرك على الجيوش، (فقال) (٢): وما يدريكم لعل رسول اللَّه ﷺ كان يتألفني بذلك (٣).
Hazrat Amr bin Murrah says that the first person to set the condition of having guards was Hazrat Amr bin Aas. When he was afflicted with the illness of death, he sent a message to his guards to come to him with their weapons and protective gear. When they arrived, Hazrat Amr said, "Do you have the power to keep away from me that which I am about to fall victim to, i.e., death? And I appointed you for this very day." They said, "Subhan Allah! You are saying this even though the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to consult you and appoint you as the commander of armies." He replied, "What do you know? Perhaps the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did so just to please my heart."
