Hadith 38712
٣٨٧١٢ - حدثنا أبو معاوية عن عاصم عن (١) عباس (بن) (٢) عبد اللَّه الهاشمي ⦗١٧٨⦘ قال: أول ما خلقت المساجد أن رسول اللَّه ﷺ رأى بالقبلة نخامة فحكها، ثم أمر بالخلوق فلطخ به مكانها، فخلق الناس المساجد (٣).
Hazrat Abbas bin Abdur Rahman Hashimi narrates that the first incident of applying perfume in mosques occurred when the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw spit on the Qibla side of the mosque. He had it cleaned and then ordered that perfume be applied to that spot. After that, people began to apply perfume in the mosque.
