Hadith 38668
٣٨٦٦٨ - حدثنا أبو أسامة عن (مجالد) (١) قال: أخبرنا عامر أن أول جد خاصم (بني) (٢) (بنيه) (٣) عمر بن الخطاب، مات ابنه وترك ابنين فخاصمهم إلى ⦗١٦٨⦘ زيد بن ثابت فرآه عمر ينظر في شأنهم فقال: من يخاصمني في ولدي، فقال زيد: إن لهم أبا دونك، فشرك بينهم (٤).
Hazrat Aamir narrates that the first grandfather who disputed to obtain his grandsons was Hazrat Umar bin Khattab. His son passed away and left behind two sons. Hazrat Umar took the dispute for their custody to Hazrat Zaid bin Thabit. When he saw that Hazrat Zaid would decide against him, he said, "Who can be my opponent regarding my own children?" Hazrat Zaid replied, "Their father is not you, but someone else." Then he established partnership between them.
