Hadith 38654
٣٨٦٥٤ - حدثنا عفان حدثنا حماد بن سلمة عن علي بن زيد عن (عبيد اللَّه) (١) ابن إبراهيم قال: أول من ألقى (الحصى) (٢) في (مسجد) (٣) النبي ﷺ عمر بن الخطاب، كان الناس إذا رفعوا رؤوسهم من السجود نفضوا أيديهم فأمر (بالحصى) (٤) فجيء به من العقيق، فبسط في مسجد النبي ﷺ (٥).
Hazrat Ubaidullah bin Ibrahim narrates that the first person to spread pebbles in Masjid Nabawi was Hazrat Umar bin Khattab. When people would raise their heads, they would dust off their hands. He ordered for pebbles to be spread. Pebbles were brought from the place of Aqiq and spread in Masjid Nabawi (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).
