Hadith 38641
٣٨٦٤١ - حدثنا محمد بن الحسن حدثنا أبو عوانة عن مغيرة عن عامر عن عدي ابن حاتم قال: أتيت عمر في ناس من قومي، فجعل يفرض لرجال من طيء في ألفين، ويعرض عني، فقلت: يا أمير المؤمنين أما (تعرفني؟) (١) فضحك حتى استلقى لقفاه، ثم قال: (واللَّه) (٢) إني لأعرفك، قد آمنت إذ كفروا، وأقبلت إذ أدبروا (٣)، ثم أخذ يعتذر، ثم قال: إنما فرضت لقوم أجحفت بهم الفاقة وهم سراة عشائرهم لما ينوبهم من الحقوق (٤).
Hazrat Adi bin Hatim narrates that I, along with some people from my tribe, presented myself before Hazrat Umar bin Khattab. He was busy distributing wealth among some people of the tribe of Tayy and was turning away from me. I said to him, "O Commander of the Faithful! Do you not know me?" Upon hearing this, Hazrat Umar laughed and laughed so much that he lay down. Then he said, "By God! I know you very well. When all the people disbelieved, you believed; when all turned away, you turned towards Islam." Then, offering an excuse, he said, "I was giving wealth to some people who were suffering from hunger. They are honorable people of their families."
