Hadith 38622
٣٨٦٢٢ - حدثنا مروان بن معاوية عن أبي جابر محمد بن عبيد الكندي قال: قال علي لابن الكواء: تدري ما قال الأول؟ أحبب حبيبك هونا ما عسى أن يكون بغيضك يومًا ما، وأبغض بغيضك هونا ما عسى أن يكون حبيبك يوما ما (١).
Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Ibn Kawa: "Do you know what was the first thing the people of old said regarding wisdom? It was this: Maintain moderation in friendship with your friend, for it is possible that one day he may become your enemy; and maintain moderation in enmity with your enemy, for it is possible that one day he may become your friend."
