Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Ka'b bin Malik narrates that when my father's eyesight was lost, I used to take him for the Friday prayer. When he heard the call to Friday prayer, he would seek forgiveness and pray for Abu Umamah As'ad bin Zurarah. I asked him, "O father! Why do you pray and seek forgiveness for Abu Umamah on Fridays?" He replied, "Son! Before the arrival of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) in Madinah Munawwarah, he was the first to lead us in the Friday prayer near the spring and pasture of Banu Bayadah." I asked, "How many people were you at that time?" He replied, "At that time, we were forty people."
