It is narrated from a man named Mikaeel, who says that when Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) would stand for prayer at night, he would say: Indeed, You are seeing my place and You know my need. So, O Allah! Return me to my place successful and with my supplication accepted from Your presence. Indeed, You have forgiven me and had mercy on me. And when Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) would finish his prayer, he would say: O Allah! I do not see any permanence in anything of this world, and I do not see any stability in any state of this world. O Allah! Make me one who speaks with knowledge in this world, and make me one who remains silent in this world by Your command. O Allah! Do not increase the world for me so much that I become rebellious, and do not decrease it for me so much that I become forgetful. Surely, a little of the world that suffices is better than an abundance that makes one heedless.
