Hazrat Ja'far, who was a reader of books, narrates: Verily, Luqman (may Allah have mercy on him) was a carpenter slave from Habsha. (Once) his master said to him: Slaughter a goat for me. Ja'far says: He slaughtered a goat for him. His master said: Bring me its two best parts. So he brought him the heart and the tongue. Ja'far says: His master said: Was there anything better than these in it? Hazrat Luqman (may Allah have mercy on him) replied: No. So his master remained silent and some time passed in this way. Then (one day) his master said: Slaughter a goat for me. So he slaughtered a goat. His master said: Take out its two worst parts. So he took out its heart and tongue. His master said: I told you to bring the two best parts, and you brought the heart and tongue; then I told you to bring the two worst parts, and again you brought the heart and tongue (what is the reason for this?). Hazrat Luqman (may Allah have mercy on him) replied: When the heart and tongue are pure, there is nothing better (in the body) than them. And when the heart and tongue are evil, there is nothing worse (in the body) than them.
