٣٥٩٧١ - قال سلام: فلما قرا عليهم عهده قالوا: سلنا، قال: أسئلكم طعاما آكله وعلفا لحماري هذا، قال: فأقام فيهم ما شاء اللَّه، ثم كتب إليه عمر أن أقدم، فخرج فلما بلغ عمر قدومه كمن له في مكان حيث يراه، فلما رآه على (الحال الذي) (١) خرج من عنده عليها أتاه عمر فالتزمه وقال: أنت أخي وأنا أخوك.
35971 - Salam said: When he read his covenant to them, they said: Ask us. He said: I ask you for food to eat and fodder for this donkey of mine. He stayed among them as long as Allah willed, then Umar wrote to him to come. So he set out, and when Umar learned of his arrival, he lay in wait for him in a place where he could see him. When he saw him in the same condition in which he had left him, Umar came to him, embraced him, and said: You are my brother and I am your brother.
