Hadith 35969

Hazrat Ibn Sirin narrates that whenever Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) appointed someone as a governor, he would write regarding him that as long as he acts with justice among you, obey him. When Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) was appointed as a governor, he wrote regarding him: Obey him, and whatever he asks from you, give it to him. Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived in Mada’in riding on a donkey, holding a piece of bread and meat in his hand. He greeted them and recited the letter of appointment before them. The people said, “Please ask (something from us).” He replied, “I ask you for food for myself and fodder for this donkey.” Then he stayed among them as long as Allah willed. Afterwards, Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) wrote to him to move forward, so Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) set out. When Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) heard of his coming, he went to the place from where he could see him arriving. When he saw him in the same condition as when he had left, returning just as he had gone, Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) embraced him and said, “You are my brother and I am your brother.”
