Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) and Hazrat Saeed bin Al-Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) both narrate that Hazrat Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) fixed five thousand for the Muhajireen and four thousand for the Ansar. And for those among the children of the Muhajireen who participated in the Battle of Badr, he fixed four thousand. Among them were Usama bin Zaid, Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Jahsh, Umar bin Abi Salamah, and Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them). Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Auf (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Certainly, Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) is not like them. Indeed, Abdullah is their leader. Upon this, Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) said to Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him): If this is my right, then you must give it to me, otherwise do not give it to me at all. So Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Auf (may Allah be pleased with him): You fix four thousand for me, and five thousand for Abdullah. By Allah, I and you cannot be united on five thousand. Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) said: If it is my right, then give it to me, otherwise do not give it to me at all.
