Hadith 35078
٣٥٠٧٨ - حدثنا وكيع قال: ثنا سفيان عن يحيى بن عمرو بن سلمة الهمداني عن أبيه عن عبيدة السلماني قال: قال لي عمر: كم ترى الرجل يكفيه من عطائه؟ ⦗٢٩٧⦘ (قال) (١): قلت: كذا وكذا، قال: لإن بقيت لأجعلن عطاء الرجل أربعة آلاف: ألفًا لسلاحه، وألفًا لنفقته، وألفًا يجعلها في بيته، وألفًا لكذا وكذا، أحسبه قال لفرسه (٢).
Hazrat Ubaidah Salmani (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked me: What is your opinion, how much salary would be sufficient for a man? I said: Such and such amount. He (may Allah be pleased with him) said: If I remain (alive), I will certainly fix a salary of four thousand for a man. One thousand for his weapon. One thousand for his expenses. And one thousand for him to use at home. And one thousand for that thing. The narrator says that I think he (may Allah be pleased with him) mentioned the horse.
