Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Salamah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: He came to Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) from Bahrain. He (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I came and performed the Isha prayer with Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). When he saw me, I greeted him with salam. He asked: What have you brought with you? I said: I have brought five hundred thousand. He asked: Do you know what you are saying? I said: I have brought five hundred thousand. He said: You are saying one hundred thousand, and one hundred thousand, and one hundred thousand, and one hundred thousand, and one hundred thousand—until he counted five times. And he said: Surely, you are feeling drowsy. Go to your home and sleep. Then come to me tomorrow. Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The next day I came to him. He asked: What have you brought? I said: Five hundred thousand. He asked: Really? I said: Really, and that is all I know. He (may Allah be pleased with him) said to the people: A great amount of wealth has come to me. If you wish, I will count the wealth for you, and if you wish, I will measure it for you. At this, a man said: O Commander of the Faithful! Indeed, I have seen those non-Arabs who record a register of justice and distribute to people based on it. Then Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) had a register of justice recorded, and he fixed five thousand each for the Muhajireen, and four thousand each for the Ansar Companions (may Allah be pleased with them), and twelve thousand each for the pure wives of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
