Hadith 34817
٣٤٨١٧ - حدثنا وكيع قال: ثنا سفيان عن علقمة بن مرثد عن سليمان بن بريدة عن أبيه قال: كان رسول اللَّه ﷺ إذا بعث أميرًا على سرية أو جيش أوصاه فقال: "إذا لقيت عدوك من المشركين فادعهم إلى إحدى ثلاث خصال أو خلال، فأيتهن ما أجابوك إليها فاقبل منهم، وكف عنهم، ادعهم إلى الإسلام، فإن أجابوك فكف عنهم (واقبل) (١) منهم، ثم ادعهم إلى التحول من دارهم إلى دار المهاجرين، ⦗٢٣٣⦘ وأعلمهم أنهم إن فعلوا ذلك أن لهم ما للمهاجرين، وأن عليهم ما (على) (٢) المهاجرين، وإن أبوا واختاروا دارهم فأعلمهم أنهم (يكونون) (٣) كأعراب المسلمين يجري عليهم حكم اللَّه الذي يجري على المؤمنين، ولا يكون لهم في الفيء والغنيمة نصيب إلا أن يجاهدوا مع المسلمين، فإن أبوا فادعهم إلى إعطاء الجزية، فإن (أجابوا) (٤) فاقبل منهم وكف عنهم، وإن أبوا فاستعن باللَّه وقاتلهم" (٥).
Hazrat Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) appointed someone as the commander of a detachment or an army, he would advise him that when you meet your enemy from among the polytheists, invite them to one of three things or practices. If they accept any of these, accept it from them and refrain from fighting them. First, invite them to Islam. If they accept, refrain from fighting them and accept their Islam. Then invite them to leave their land and come to the land of the Muhajirin, and inform them that if they do so, they will have the same reward and obligations as the Muhajirin. If they refuse and choose to remain in their own city, then inform them that they will be like Muslim villagers; Allah’s command will apply to them as it applies to the believers, but they will have no share in the spoils of war or booty unless they fight alongside the Muslims. If they refuse this as well, then invite them to pay the jizya. If they agree, accept it from them and refrain from fighting them. But if they refuse, then seek help from Allah and fight them.
