Hadith 34417
٣٤٤١٧ - حدثنا ابن نمير قال: ثنا الأعمش عن حبة بن جوين قال: كنا جلوسا عند علي فذكرنا بعض قول (عبد) (١) اللَّه، وأثنى القوم عليه فقالوا يا أمير المؤمنين ما رأينا رجلًا أحسن خلقًا ولا أرفق تعليمًا ولا أشد ورعًا ولا أحسن مجالسة من ابن مسعود، فقال علي: نشدتكم اللَّه إنه للصدق من قلوبكم؟ قالوا: نعم، قال: اللهم إني أشهدك (أني) (٢) أقول مثل ما قالوا، أو أفضل (٣) (٤).
Hazrat A’mash (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Habbah bin Juwain (may Allah have mercy on him) said: We were sitting with Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) when we mentioned some things about Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him), and people began to praise him and said: O Commander of the Faithful! We have not seen anyone who has better character than Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him), who teaches with more gentleness, who is more pious, and who has better gatherings. Upon this, Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I ask you by Allah, are you saying this sincerely from your hearts? The people said: Yes! He (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Allah! Indeed, I make You a witness that surely I also say the same as these people have said, that he is superior.
